FIND YOURSELF THROUGH TRANSFORMATIONAL TRAVEL IN COSTA RICA

Find Yourself through Transformational Travel in Costa Rica

I’ve been thinking a lot about the parallels between the world we live in right now and what things were like back in the 1990s.

I just read somewhere that the 90s was considered the “Last Great Decade”— The 1990s had astounding highs and lows.

I was a recent high school graduate in the US and we were coming out of eight years of Reaganism and facing a devastating economic recession with very few job opportunities.

The rainforest was being cut down at alarming rates, the Gulf War began while the Cold War ended, Clinton beat Bush, NAFTA went into effect, and we were instructed to “challenge authority...” and “reuse, reduce and recycle.”

Technology paved the way for the information superhighway, and people were becoming billionaires.

The world was going through a bit of its own self-discovery — globalization, walls coming down, factories being closed and moving to other parts of the world, migrants moving from country to country, the EU taking down barriers...

The 90s was also a time of self discovery for me on a personal level.

In the 90s, I was a young idealist with eternal optimism who had an incessant internal chant “I want to go out and change the world!... I want to go out and change the world!”

I felt the need to “find myself” and and took to traveling to broaden my horizons and change my perspective. I guess I needed to find my tribe.

I became a tour leader and lead adventure seekers throughout North, Central and South America and experienced new cultures, did exciting adventures and made lifelong bonds with new people.

Fast forward almost 30 years later and we’re debating Global Climate Change, the oceans are overrun by plastic rubbish, walls are going back up, NAFTA has been renegotiated and we’ve moved from the Cold War to a War on Democracy.

As a result of such global chaos, it’s no wonder a new generation of wanderlusters are seeking travel experiences “to empower themselves to help make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives.”

They are “traveling with intention, openness, and mindfulness by engaging in challenging physical and/or unique cultural experiences.”

This seemingly revolutionary style of travel has a name: Transformational Travel.

Transformational travel can take many forms, but it generally includes authentic travel experiences that transform the traveler.

One of the things I’ve figured out after all of my wanderlusting, in order for us to change the world, we have to allow travel to change us.
Our goal at Desafio Adventure Company is to provide opportunities for travelers to engage in cultural experiences like our cooking classes or salsa dance lessons, eat fresh, healthy local food, have a life-changing experience jumping from waterfalls in Gravity Falls, meet new friends on a rafting excursion paddling down an intense class 3-4 river, be reminded of nature’s ever-present beauty and power by taking a hike through the rainforest, or hang out in natural, hot springs pools and meditate, relax, yoga, have a spa treatment, go to a workshop.

Our national slogan in Costa Rica “pura vida” gets to the heart of what Transformational Travel is all about... experiencing “the pure life,” having transcendental experiences so that when you return home, you feel transformed.

Let us help you with your self-discovery as you #FindYourselfinCostaRica!

I found myself here in Costa Rica and my internal chant is as present as ever:  “I still want to change the world!...”

Pura vida!
