Costa Rica Cooking Class in La Fortuna is one of the Top Things to Do in Arenal Costa Rica
by Christine Larson, co-owner, Desafio Adventure Company
Who ever said Costa Rican cuisine was only about “rice and beans” needs to experience the Desafio Adventure Company ‘Cook Like a Local’ Costa Rica Cooking Class in La Fortuna.
This unique, hands-on local cooking experience takes place at the foothills of the majestic Arenal Volcano at Desafio’s new and elegant Hunters and Gatherers riverside restaurant.
“I wasn’t quite sure where the friendly Desafio driver was taking us,” said one recent cooking enthusiast, “but not only was Desafio‘s place amazing and our cooking instructor entertaining, but I have to stay, the food we cooked was definitely 5 stars!”
This Costa Rica culinary tour is perfect for foodies, inexperienced cooks or people who just like to eat good food.
One of the great things is that the Desafio Costa Rica cooking school takes place in one of Costa Rica’s most popular destinations and is becoming one of the best things to do in La Fortuna.
If you’re planning a night out on the town at a La Fortuna restaurant, doing a cooking class is an even better way to learn about local Costa Rican traditions and have a unique Costa Rica cultural experience. Plus it turns out to be about the same price as going out for meal anyway, without waiting in line for a table! Get a very private, personalized experience!
Several of the ingredients used for the ‘Cook Like a Local’ Cooking Class come from the Desafio Costa Rica tropical garden, such as cilantro and chayote. You learn to properly put all of the pieces together to create a traditional Costa Rican “casado” or married meal consisting of Costa Rican staples rice and beans, chicken and vegetable stew, salad and an in-season “picadillo.”
“This was a great way to meet new people and share a delicious meal while doing some Costa Rica cooking in Arenal,” said one recent visitor who had been trying his hand at cooking around Costa Rica. “I’m admittedly quite a foodie, but this was one of the most-enjoyable Costa Rica cooking experiences I’ve had!”
