The La Fortuna Waterfall - Nature in it's Rarest Form

THE LA FORTUNA WATERFALL - NATURE IN IT'S RAREST FORM

Tishal Turknett is currently studying Business Marketing with a minor in Spanish at Georgia College & State University, in Milledgeville, Georgia, USA. She came to Costa Rica to do a one month long internship with Desafio, with the intention to expand our current social media network. During her stay she got to participate in 3 Desafio tours. For each one she wrote about her experience:

I had the pleasure of taking a guided tour to the La Fortuna Waterfall with Desafio Adventure Company. I accompanied a Canadian family that consisted of a mother in her thirties, a beautiful nine year old daughter, a rambunctious six year old son, and two grandparents.

Our tour guide's name from Desafio was Andres. Andres and the Desafio driver were extremely personable and friendly from the moment we entered the van.

Not long after the van pulled off from the Desafio Headquarters, we arrived at the starting point of the tour. The staff at the La Fortuna Waterfall facility where we arrived was very welcoming. They greeted us all with smiles.  We were allowed to keep our valuable belongings and a change of clothes safely behind the counter during our tour, free of charge. The entire facility was very well kept. The cleanliness of the restrooms and changing area was very pleasing.

Andres had a unique talent of keeping everyone excited about the adventure ahead. All throughout the tour he did a wonderful job teaching us about various plants and animals that dwelled in the tropical forest. He brought our attention to various types of beautiful birds such as hummingbirds and sparrows.

Andres told the group, I love La Fortuna for its natural beauty. You can experience nature in its rarest form. His insightful commentary made hiking an enjoyable learning experience.  First we were guided to an exquisite lookout area. I could see two powerful waterfalls flowing down rocks from afar. The gorgeous scenery made the lookout area a great place for family photos. Next, we proceeded to hike for approximately ten minutes down to the location where the two waterfalls met.  The scene was absolutely remarkable. I could actually feel the refreshing mist of water bouncing off the rocks onto my skin. The little boy and girl could barely contain their excitement. I definitely snapped more pictures than I can remember. Lastly, we hiked a little further to an area that seemed more like a calm pond. Andres, the grandfather, and his little six year old grandson held a pretty competitive rock skipping competition. Needless to say, grandpa took home the gold.  We hiked back up to the initial picnic area and finished our tour with a delicious snack consisting of flavorful Costa Rican fruits and an assortment of beverages.

There was one moment in particular that stood out to me which displayed the genuine character of the Desafio team. Some moments during the walk, the grandmother of the Canadian family felt as though her walking pace was slowing down the entire group. Standing at the base of the steps, she humbly ushered everyone to move ahead of her. Andres graciously reassured her that we were not in any rush. Her smile communicated a sense of peace of mind in knowing that her engagement played an active role in the adventure.  The guided hike to the La Fortuna Waterfall is truly suitable for all ages. This tour was by far the most relaxing tour I have experienced in Costa Rica thus far. The entire group never felt hurried to get to the next destination. We were always given an ample amount of time to capture quality photos. I felt as though the essence of this guided tour centered on absorbing Costa Rica's natural beauty. We were allowed to take in the serenity of the delicate rainforest.
