Tambor is a small Costa Rican beach town located in the Nicoya Peninsula. The town itself is small with basic amenities but its ever-so-tranquil beach and robust nature is something worth visiting. The flat, dark sandy beach is great for sun bathing or playing in the sand with kids and the calm waves are ideal for swimming. There are not very many hotels located along this beach, but those that are there are more developed large hotel chains, with very few budget hotel options. Still, the beach is a good place to hang out it does not get very crowded, making it a great place to have some peace and quiet or read a book under a shady tree. The beach is surrounded by palm trees, lush forests and high bluffs as well the Panica River that flows just north of the town center. There are many nature tours available like taking a boat ride to the Guayabo and Negritos Islands or hiking through the Cabo Blanco Reserve located at the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula.
