Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is well renowned for its deep jungle and impressive rainforest river that flows along the edge of this little town. The area next to the Sarapiqui region is the Braulio Carrillo National Park reserve, so much of the area is considered protected. Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is located about 1.5 hours from La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano, but it is worth a visit just on its own. The community is vibrant and a lot of scientific research is done in the area because of its unique rain forest environment.
Do not miss out on visiting Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui when making your way around Costa Rica and be sure to add a rafting trip on the famous Sarapiqui river on Desafio's exclusive Jungle Run class 3-4 section while on your Costa Rica vacation!
