Home to the second largest International airport in Costa Rica, Liberia is often the starting point to many people's vacation. It is located in the province of Guanacaste and only a few hours to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Pacific coast!
It has been nicknamed the "ciudad blanca" or the "white city" because the city's roads and colonial style houses were once made up of white gravel and white building materials. With a local population of 63,000 people it's a nice, smaller alternative to visiting San Jose but large enough to walk around and explore. You can stroll through the well marked streets lined with shade-bearing Guanacaste trees, and stop at a local restaurant to try a local Costa Rican dish called the "casado". Many people don't spend much time in this typical Costa Rican city but if you decide to stay, there are many comfortable and affordable hotels to choose from. We recommend staying at the Hilton Garden inn before and after your Costa Rica vacation in order to break up an otherwise long travel day!
