White Water Rafting in Arenal, Costa Rica
When the rain gets going in green season in Costa Rica, the river
rafting trips get really exciting. As the rivers swell with rainwater,
it’s your cue to hop aboard for a fun, wild ride down a beautiful
rainforest river. Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica not only has awesome
rivers, it also is surrounded by lush rainforest, deep canyons, and
towers over the largest fresh water lake in the country – Lake Arenal.
And the waters of Lake Arenal flow into the picturesque redrock canyons
of the Tenorio River out towards the Golden Coast of Guanacaste.
“There are more paddling options in the Arenal area than anywhere else in Central America,” declares Desafio Adventure Company, which operates whitewater rafting trips in Arenal.
Desafio has two rules: 1) Be safe, and, 2) Have serious fun! That works for me! Desafio operates river rafting trips in Arenal on the Balsa River (class 2-3), a Safari Float on the Penas Blancas River (class 1), Class 3-4 rafting on the Toro and Sarapiquí rivers and also combo tours with rappelling or canopy zip-lining, and affordable private tours for only you and your family and friends or group. The Balsa River is a perfect whitewater rafting adventure if you want fun and excitement without being too crazy. The trip is a half-day tour down class 2 and 3 rapids, which is right for persons with little to no rafting experience and also for families. You will paddle down 10 kilometers of rolling rapids like “Morning Coffee” and “Rock around the Croc”, with tranquil pools along the way to catch your breath and see the scenery and wildlife. The river flows down a long, rainforest canyon, about 45 minutes outside of the town of La Fortuna by the Arenal Volcano.
And you won’t want to miss out on saving time and saving money by taking advantage of Desafío Adventure Company’s innovative Adventure Connections and go rafting on the way from one destination to the next. If you are in San José and traveling to the Arenal Volcano, you can go rafting on the way. Or if traveling from the Arenal Volcano to the Costa Rica beaches of Guanacaste, you can go rafting or do a safari float on the Tenorio River and let the journey be your adventure! And there is even an Adventure Connection rafting from the Arenal Volcano to Manuel Antonio! This is the best way to travel in Costa Rica!
Rafting tours include: High-quality rafting equipment, snacks, drinks, lunch, towel, bilingual certified guides, private river entrance and exit with changing rooms and bathroom, and transportation to/from your Arenal area hotel in a Wi-Fi-equipped van.
What to Bring: quick-dry clothes, swimsuit, sunscreen, strap-on sandals or athletic shoes, and a change of clothes.
