There many things to do in the epicenter of adventure known as La Fortuna, or as the tourists call it “Arenal.” For local activities, you can start by hiring a guide to teach you amazing things about the area and its wildlife and nature. If you feel like going on your own and taking a walk around town, you can go shopping, try the local restaurants, etc. If you are talking about hot springs and relaxing, there are some luxury romantic resort springs. But if, like me, you don´t want to spend much money that day, you can just drive and then walk down to the river where you can go for free, which is what I did and I had an amazing time. Small lanterns turn on and the moon makes it clear enough to enjoy it after 6pm, which gives you just enough time to find your way to a nice spot before dark. The place is filled with a combination of a lot of locals and tourists. Just an amazing experience!
Before that, I forgot to mention that I visited Arenal Volcano National Park. There you will learn about history and biodiversity and you will be guided along trails. It’s not great for wildlife watching, but it’s amazing for learning about the history of the volcano and seeing amazing views at the end of the hike.
If you find yourself in a more adventurous mood and are looking for a challenge, feel free to book the best adventure: walking through the heart of the rainforest while canyoneering, or paddling for your life while white water rafting in the most beautiful surroundings!
