Lost Canyon Adventures Canyoneering… Are you ready to go BIG!?!
Canyoneering is a brand new sport that’s becoming very popular the world over! Near the Arenal Volcano, our rugged, mountainous terrain is ideal for incredible canyoneering options & huge, breathtaking waterfalls!
This unique, multi-sport adventure combines rappelling, down-climbing and river tracing in a deep, tropical canyon. Our Lost Canyon Adventure is an experience of a lifetime – go where very few have had the privilege to roam! Imagine yourself in the midst of thick rainforest at the top of a magical canyon full of tropical waterfalls with surprises each step of the way.
Travel the old-fashion way! You’ve heard about Costa Rica’s famous backroads – you’ll start off by doing a fun 4x4 off-road adventure as you climb about 15 minutes up into a quiet mountainside community.
Prepare to get wet! Your guides will give you a thorough safety talk to explain important rappelling and down-climbing techniques. You will be provided high-quality technical climbing gear such as a harness, helmet, gloves and you will get to practice your 1st descent on a mini, 15-ft waterfall, to get the hang of things.
Take a deep breath! And there you are, on a sturdy, government-approved platform looking down into the depths of a 150-ft massive waterfall. You’ll rappel down for the thrill of a lifetime! Make your way along the river bed by down-climbing and rappelling a series of six waterfalls that get gradually bigger and… BIGGER!
Save the best for last! The biggest and most-exciting waterfall is your last descent… you’ll finish with a 200ft-guided-rappel at the end!
The hike back up takes about 10 minutes, but take your time to enjoy the intense rainforest that surrounds you! At the top, you’ll arrive to our Canyon House where you can change into your dry clothes and then sit down to your best meal in Costa Rica!
Recommended for ages 13-55 in good physical condition. Special arrangements can be made for children between 10 and 13 years at an additional cost. Private trips available. |

To make your trip more enjoyable and safe, we´d like to tell you about some of our policies for our exciting adventures:- The natural environment of Costa Rica is filled with insects, snakes, crocodiles and a variety of other wildlife, so we may not be held responsible for an encounter with any of the above.
- For reasons beyond our control (climate, river levels, etc.), we may change to a more-suitable river or tour with an equal or similar difficulty rating and adventure-appeal. Our Head Guide makes the final decision. Desafío Adventure Company has the right to cancel any trip due to unsafe conditions and will only run a tour according to established company policies. We may also cancel any client seen unfit to do a tour for their own safety and/or the safety of clients and guides. Full refund is given if (on rare occasion) no tour is run.
- Rafting, canyoneering, horseback riding & many of our other adventures involve some inherent risk and physical exertion, so you must be in good physical condition without any recent surgery, heart condition, pregnancy or injury. If you take medication such as allergy pills and need them with you or have other medical concerns, please inform the Head Guide.
- The recommended ages for our tours are as follows: Canyoneering: 13–55yrs; Río Toro: 13–55yrs; Río Balsa: 10–55yrs; Volcano Hike & Safari Float: 6–65 yrs; Cerro Chato Extreme Hike: 13–55yrs; Horseback Riding: 8-55yrs; and Community, Culture, and Conservation: any age. For children under 13 years of age on our canyoneering tour, we can arrange an extra guide at an additional cost at the time of reservation.
- The maximum weight limit for whitewater rafting, canyoneering and horseback riding is 200 lbs. We may make an exception for our canyoneering tour if your waistline is less than 42-inches.
- You must wear secure shoes and clothing to get wet in. We highly recommend closed-shoes for hikes, canyoneering and horseback. For rafting tours, we recommend that you know how to swim.
- Clients must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- We recommend you leave your valuables; jewelry, camera, passport, etc. in your hotel´s safe. You may also leave items in the bus, as our driver will stay with the vehicle at all times. Desafío Adventure Company and its affiliates are not responsible for lost, broken or stolen items.
- All tours must be prepaid: Prepayment can be made in US dollars, Costa Rican colones, credit card via a signed credit card authorization form (Visa/Mastercard/American Express). Credit cards are charged once the authorization form has been received in our office. Your reservation is not confirmed until we acknowledge receipt of credit card authorization form or pre-payment. Confirmation subject to availability: Due to our small, personalized tours, we cannot guarantee your reservation until we have confirmed receipt of your payment.
- We have a 50% administrative fee for same-day cancellations. No refunds for no-shows.
