Driving to the La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano Area?
Here’s the best way to get here:
ROUTE: San Jose or Alajuela to San Ramon passing by Río Javillos to La Fortuna
Take the Panamerican Highway #1 out of San Jose to Alajuela and keep going straight.
You will pass by the International Airport at Alajuela and you should continue straight for approximately 2 kilometers until you see a sign to San Ramon and keep to the left.
You will continue for about 1.5 hours on the Panamerican Highway until you see the exit to the right and drive through the downtown of San Ramon. Continue straight until you see a sign to San Lorenzo, as well as a sign for the Hotel Villa Blanca and Lands in Love, (these are hotels you’ll pass on the way.)
Follow the signs and continue on the road to the right where you’ll see a Police kiosk. You will travel about 10 minutes until you cross 2 rickety bridges and then turn on the first left. You will pass by a large bridge over Río Javillos, a couple of fruit and souvenir stands, plus a couple small towns such as Los Angeles and El Tanque. About 45 minutes later you’ll start to see more tourism signs and come upon the center of La Fortuna. As you come through town, you’ll see the central Catholic church to your right. Turn right when you see Alamo and half a block you’ll see our 3-story building on the left. You can park in the front and let our friendly staff take care of you!
